Designing Critical Pathways to Climate Action Through Art and Culture

In this talk, Favianna Rodriguez will make the case that art and culture aren’t peripheral to the climate fight but one of its most powerful levers. Drawing on her years organizing at the intersection of art and social justice, she’ll explore how artists shape the stories, symbols, and cultural narratives that determine whether people feel connected to the land, urgency, and each other, and how that connection (or its absence) shows up in the choices communities make around climate.

Expect a conversation about the role of imagination and cultural strategy in building climate resilience, why centering joy and healing matters alongside urgency and grief, and how artists and cultural organizers can work alongside scientists and policymakers rather than after them. Rodriguez will offer both a framework for thinking about art’s role in movement building and concrete examples from her own practice of what that work looks like in action.
