Art Farm at West Dry Creek

Bird Language & Our Ecological Nervous System

Led by Lauren and Dave Hage of Weaving earth

Saturday, March 7, 10am-1pm
321 West Dry Creek Road, Healdsburg

Led by members of the Weaving Earth team, this session will engage the practices of Bird Language and Mindful Birding. These simple yet potent practices allow us to tune into the nervous system of the land - awakening the reciprocal conversation between the living world and ourselves (as a part of the living world).

Weaving Earth approaches bird language through both a co-liberatory lens and somatic orientation, as the practices can help us attune to our nervous systems, create empathy and connection across difference, offer insight into our internal and collective rhythms, and be applied to community leadership, community response, and relationship building. We listen from a place of reverence, intuition, and respect. We regard birds not just as ecological indicators, but as kin and allies - supporting our mental and physical health, our attention, and our shared commitment to justice and protection of those most in need. Importantly, our capacity to understand bird language helps us to be better allies to the birds. As we practice attention, we can decrease the wake of our ripple and be accountable to our impact as we move through the landscape.

This event is free and open to all.

About Dave Hage

Dave is a Co-Founder & Director of Operations at Weaving Earth (WE) and has been facilitating nature connection experiences since 2005. His family roots trace back to Northern Europe, and he was raised in the oaken hills and grasslands of Pomo and Miwok territories. Dave brings his love of the natural world (including humans), and a particular fire for the study of bird language, to his practice. A key aspect of Dave’s work at WE is serving his community by guiding teens and adults through meaningful, nature-based transitions—work he understands as vital to restoring the social fabric. As a student of the collective effort of interspecies co-liberation, he seeks to ally with the birds—and all of life—in this endeavor.
