The Art Farm at West Dry Creek

Islands of Refugia: Building Relationships Through the Art and Science of Farming

with Farmer-in-Residence, Benjamin Fahrer

Friday, February 27, 5pm–7pm
321 West Dry Creek Road, Healdsburg

As we enter an unprecedented era shaped by globalized systems, accelerating technology, and climate and social crises, we may not know exactly what comes next, but we do know that we need community, resilience, and living “islands of refugia”: biological safe havens of diversity in times of great change.

Across our regions, beautiful hubs are already emerging as we reimagine a local, bioregional food system grounded in organic and regenerative practices. This evening’s presentation explores how we can intentionally design and build these “islands of refugia” within the community systems and bioregional movements that are emerging, with a focus on climate solutions rooted in agricultural transformation. Drawing from hands-on experience creating regenerative ecological farm systems, this work honors seeds and stories as our lifelines in the years ahead, inviting us to awaken our radical imaginations as we plot a revolution from the ground up. This is slow food, regenerative agriculture, permaculture, ecology, and intentional community in a time of unprecedented change. Come ready to engage, participate, and co-create as we explore how each gathering can become an act of community-building and resilience.

This event is free. Space in the Art Barn is limited, please RSVP below by February 25th to reserve your spot.
